Diagnostic Testing & Assessments

  • Ovarian Reserve Screening:

    • Evaluates egg quality and quantity through FSH levels and Anti-Mullerian Hormone (AMH) testing. Detecting unrecognized issues with egg numbers is an important screening tool and essential for healthy pregnancy outcomes.

  • Thyroid Function:

    • Evaluating thyroid health helps manage conditions that could impact fertility and pregnancy.

  • Progesterone Levels:

    • Essential for early pregnancy support, our testing helps identify and treat potential deficiencies.

  • Genetic Testing:

    • We assess recessive genes to uncover risks for inherited conditions that may impact fertility and pregnancy.

  • Transvaginal Ultrasound:

    • Evaluating the ovaries for cysts, endometriosis and an antral follicle count– to better understand ovarian reserve (egg numbers), and the uterus for abnormalities such as fibroids (myomas), is a routine part of the first visit. Your physician will perform the ultrasound and review results with you in real time and answering your questions.

  • Saline Infusion Sonography (SIS):

    • This painless ultrasound procedure evaluates the uterine cavity for abnormalities such as fibroids, polyps, or scarring.

  • Hysterosalpingogram (HSG):

    • A crucial test to assess the fallopian tubes and uterine cavity for blockages and structural issues using a contrast dye.

Semen Analysis:An important test is a semen analysis. 40% of infertility has a significant contribution from the male. We provide a comprehensive semen analysis to screen the male partner.

  • Genetic Counseling & Testing:

    • We guide you through understanding hereditary risks and provide testing for conditions like balanced translocations and carrier screening.

  • Hematologic Conditions:

    • Identifying clotting disorders such as Protein C or antiphospholipid antibody syndrome helps address causes of pregnancy loss.

You’ve got questions, we’ve got answers.

A preliminary fertility evaluation is the first step in assessing your reproductive health. It typically includes a detailed medical history, physical exam, blood tests to check hormone levels, and an ultrasound to evaluate ovarian reserve and uterine health.

During a fertility evaluation, you will undergo a series of tests to assess both partners' reproductive health. These may include blood tests, imaging studies, and semen analysis. Your doctor will review the results with you and discuss next steps for treatment if needed.

The cost of a fertility evaluation varies depending on the tests required and your insurance coverage. At Virginia Fertility & IVF, we provide transparent pricing and work with you to explore payment options, including insurance and financing plans.
